There are many reasons to get rid of the cockroaches infesting your home or business besides the fact that they are unpleasant to look at. Cockroaches have long been known to spread all sorts of serious diseases due to the shape of their bodies, which is full of nooks and crannies perfect to transport bacteria in. In fact, tests have shown that a single cockroach can carry up to 35 different kinds of bacteria on it, that can in turn cause sicknesses such as dysentry, or even polio.
They also smell decidedly foul, and their bodies tend to leave both the odor and greasy, marks on everything they come into contact with. The damage they cause to organic materials, such as paper and leather can be substantial. And in favorable conditions—that is, places that offer shelter, plenty of places to hide, and constant access to both food and water—cockroaches can reproduce very fast, turning the “one or two” cockroaches in your home you decided to ignore into tens in a short period of time. So if you think you may be experiencing the onset of a cockroach infestation, contact us so we can conduct a cockroach inspection and then proceed to take action as soon as possible, hopefully before they start breeding.
Signs that there are cockroaches living on your property
Cockroaches are usually most active at night, but they leave plenty of evidence of their presence behind. All you have to do is know what to look for. Some of the telltale signs are:
Smaller roaches leave behind scatterings of dark brown dropping resembling coffee grounds, while larger cockroaches leave behind cylindrical dropping up to about 2mm long. The quantity of the fecal matter is a good indication of just how many cockroaches you are dealing with.
A strong odor
Not all cockroach species stink equally, but some emit a truly foul oily or musty odor that can be found on anything they have touched, and especially in the areas they like to congregate in, such as behind the refrigerator
Cockroaches shed their skins up to eight times during their lifetime, so during a cockroach infestation, yellowish-brown skins can often be found near their nest.
Because cockroaches like moisture, their bodies may leave brownish, irregularly-shaped smear marks or various horizontal surfaces.
Our cockroach inspection
When you contact us, we will send one of our experienced, qualified experts over to your home or business and conduct a careful cockroach inspection. Then, he or she will tell you exactly how far along the infestation you are dealing with is, and and how we think the issue should be resolved. If the infestation is advanced, it will probably be necessary to treat your facility with a powerful pesticide in order to eliminate the cockroaches as well as their yet unhatched eggs.
Once the job is done and the pests have been eliminated, our expert will tell you about the conditions that may have been conducive to cockroaches (for instance, food on countertops, or leaky pipes) and advise you to fix those problems. He or she will probably also advise you use sticky traps to monitor cockroach activity as well as give you some recommendations concerning hygiene, cleaning routines, etc. to keep the pests from returning.
